Fire Destroys Three Boats at Lake Monroe Marina

A fire at a marina on Lake Monroe in Monroe County, Indiana, resulted in the destruction of three boats and damaged a fourth on the morning of March 6, 2024. Firefighters from the Monroe Fire Protection District were alerted around 08:00 local time after reports indicated that a boat was engulfed in flames at the Fourwinds boat docks. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke emanating from multiple vessels.

Firefighters quickly initiated efforts to combat the fire while also pushing the burning boats away from their slips to prevent the flames from spreading further. Despite their prompt action, three boats were completely destroyed, and one additional boat suffered what officials described as “moderate fire damage.”

According to investigations conducted by the Monroe Fire Protection District, the fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during this incident. Later that same day, a second fire incident was reported when one of the previously burned boats experienced a fuel spill that reignited, causing further concern among local responders.

Authorities continue to monitor the area and assess any potential hazards following the fires. The quick response by firefighters likely prevented additional damage and injuries, underscoring the importance of safety protocols in marina operations.
