Ida Baker Basketball Coach Arrested for Sex Offense After Kissing Student

Ida Baker Basketball Coach Arrested for Sex Offense Following Student Kiss

Lee County authorities arrested Casimiro Razo, the boys basketball coach at Ida Baker High School, on Thursday morning, May 7, charging him with soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a student.

The arrest comes after a police report filed by the Cape Coral Police Department detailed how the 36-year-old coach kissed a female student during class and sent her inappropriate messages. According to the report, the incident first surfaced on February 2, when the student was caught with a vape cartridge and confided in an assistant principal about the coach’s behavior.

The student alleged that during the first semester of the 2025-26 school year, Razo began telling her she looked “cute” and “pretty.” The relationship escalated to texting, with Razo sending notes complimenting her appearance and suggesting they meet outside school hours.

In October 2025, the student says Razo asked her to stay after class and kissed her on the mouth. The report states that following the kiss, Razo appeared nervous and admitted to crossing a boundary.

Since the incident, Razo has not reached out to the student again, and she no longer had him as a teacher after the semester ended in January. The student was unable to provide saved text messages but did have Razo’s phone number recorded.

Legal and Employment Status

Razo remains in custody as he has not posted bail as of Thursday morning. His current employment status with the Lee County School District is unknown.

Razo’s basketball coaching record includes two seasons at Bonita Springs, where he led the Bull Sharks to a 14-32 record, before moving to Ida Baker, where his team posted a 13-38 record over two seasons.

Broader Context: Second Coach Arrested This Year

This arrest marks the second time in 2026 that a Lee County boys basketball coach has faced sex offense charges involving a student. In March, former Evangelical Christian coach R.J. Jones was arrested on similar charges and admitted to kissing a student during his deposition. Jones’s bond was set at $100,000.

The two cases have raised serious concerns about student safety and coach conduct within the district.

What’s Next

Authorities continue to investigate the full scope of the allegations. Razo faces formal charges of being an authority figure soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a student, a criminal offense that can carry significant penalties.

The Lee County School District has yet to release a statement, and it is unclear if Razo will remain employed pending further investigation or legal proceedings.

“We take these allegations very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of all students in our schools,” a district spokesperson said in a brief statement.
