Paulding Panthers Clinch GMC Championship with 62-46 Victory

Paulding High School’s basketball team, the Panthers, secured the Green Meadows Conference (GMC) championship outright with a commanding 62-46 victory over the Tinora Rams on February 13, 2026. This win marks the Panthers’ second consecutive title, capping off a successful regular season with a record of 15 wins and 4 losses.

The Panthers demonstrated a well-rounded offensive strategy, achieving an impressive shooting percentage of 51.2 percent from the field, with 21 successful shots out of 41 attempts. Their long-range shooting was particularly effective, as they completed 7 of 13 attempts from beyond the arc. In addition, the team showcased their proficiency at the free-throw line, converting 13 of 17 attempts.

Key Performers Shine in Championship Game

Leading the charge for Paulding was senior Tyson Manz, who delivered a standout performance with 24 points. He connected on 10 of 14 shots, including three from three-point territory. Blake Rhonehouse, the Panthers’ other star player, contributed significantly with 19 points, hitting four three-pointers and making 7 of 8 free throws.

In addition to their scoring, both players played crucial roles defensively. Rhonehouse recorded seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals, while Manz added five rebounds and three steals. The Panthers collectively tallied 13 assists and 13 steals, forcing their opponents into 19 turnovers against only 10 committed by Paulding.

While the Tinora Rams, who finished the season with a record of 9-11, displayed a balanced scoring effort, they struggled to match the Panthers’ offensive efficiency. The Rams managed to shoot 42.1 percent from the field and were limited to just 4 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Historic Milestones and Future Prospects

The championship game also held special significance for Rhonehouse, who surpassed the 1,000-point milestone during the match. According to Payton Beckman, the Panthers’ head coach, Rhonehouse became only the third boy in the school’s history to achieve this remarkable feat. His continued excellence earned him the title of GMC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, solidifying his legacy within the program.

With the GMC championship secured, the Panthers are poised to enter the postseason with renewed confidence and momentum. As they prepare for tournament play, the team carries with them not only a championship banner but also the excitement of a remarkable season.
