The editorial landscape at Minnesota’s only local business magazine, Twin Cities Business, has undergone a significant transformation. Adam Platt, a seasoned journalist and the magazine’s current executive editor, has been promoted to the role of editor. His focus will be on capturing the narratives of the individuals and companies that drive the local economy forward.
In tandem with Platt’s promotion, Charlie Rybak has joined the team as the new editorial director. Rybak’s main responsibility will be to enhance cross-platform storytelling, ensuring that Twin Cities Business maintains a robust presence across various media channels. This initiative aims to engage audiences wherever they prefer to receive their news. Rybak will also take on the title of vice president of innovation, contributing to the executive leadership team at MSP Communications, the parent company of Twin Cities Business.
New Perspectives on Business Reporting
Rybak expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “I am honored to join the team to expand on the foundation that so many hard-working women and men have built here. I am excited to help find new ways to reach people that care about the Twin Cities, tell the stories of our local business community, and more. I think we are going to have a lot of fun.”
Before his tenure at MSP Communications, Rybak held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Cooperative Energy Futures and co-founded Minneapolis Voices, a digital local news organization. He brings significant expertise in growth and digital media strategy, holding a degree from the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs.
Commitment to Quality and Innovation
The leadership changes were welcomed by Jayne Haugen Olson, managing director of MSP Communications. She remarked, “This is an exciting next step for our organization, and specifically for Twin Cities Business. Businesses today are looking forward and focusing on collaboration and innovation, while also leaning into their core brands and the unique aspects of their DNA.” Olson also serves as editor-in-chief of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.
Shelly Elmore, publisher of Twin Cities Business, emphasized the importance of quality reporting, stating, “Quality reporting and great storytelling will continue to make us a trusted resource for Minnesota’s business community. With Adam and Charlie stepping into their new leadership roles, their vision and expertise will elevate our storytelling and strengthen our engagement with audiences through all of our products and channels.”
Both Platt and Rybak have assumed their new positions immediately, marking a fresh chapter for Twin Cities Business. MSP Communications, which is locally owned by Key Enterprises, also manages several other publications, including Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, TechChannel, and Super Doctors. The company is led by CEO and general counsel Vance Opperman and president Nathaniel Opperman.
