The Midco Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Grand Forks Salvation Army, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services and resources to the community. This funding aims to bolster the organization’s efforts as it serves between 450 and 500 individuals each month across Grand Forks County and East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
According to a press release issued on November 18, 2023, the local Salvation Army has recently experienced a 40% increase in demand at its food pantry. This surge underscores the critical need for community assistance, particularly during challenging economic times.
Ben Dold, President and Chief Operating Officer of Midco, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting the Salvation Army’s vital outreach. “Food banks across the Midwest are experiencing serious strain amid rising costs and an increased need for their critical services,” Dold stated. “Today, Midco is honored to support the outreach of the Grand Forks Salvation Army and share their story of hope with families across the community.”
Auxiliary Captain Eugene Ware, the corps officer of the Grand Forks Salvation Army, acknowledged the significance of the grant. “This funding will help us continue to meet urgent needs, such as emergency assistance for those facing food insecurity,” Ware remarked. He emphasized the importance of community support, stating that such contributions provide hope to individuals and families in distress.
During this season of giving, Rhonda Erickson, Senior Community Relations Manager and Foundation Executive Director at Midco, highlighted the importance of recognizing the efforts of those who keep the Salvation Army operational. “Their daily acts of kindness and generosity keep many community members, including children and the elderly, fed and healthy,” Erickson said. “We’re so honored to help them with this grant and hope others will join us in recognizing them for their humble heroism.”
The press release also provided information on how the public can participate in supporting the Grand Forks Salvation Army. Community members are invited to join the organization for a community meal on November 21, 2023. Additionally, December 12 will mark Big Ring Day at Northdale Oil, where donations can range from $0.10 to $0.50 per gallon of fuel, with a goal of raising $60,000. Contributions made that day will be matched, turning every $20 into $100 through both corporate and community support.
The Salvation Army is actively seeking volunteers for various roles, including bell ringing, assisting at the thrift store, and supporting its core programs. As the organization navigates increased demand for its services, community involvement remains crucial to its mission.
