Harry Styles recently revealed the unexpected circumstances that led him to witness the conclave election of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican in 2025. Styles was spotted in Saint Peter’s Square in May, shortly after the historic event, and has now shared details about how he ended up attending the momentous occasion.
In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Styles explained that his presence at the Vatican was purely coincidental. “I was getting a haircut in Rome,” he recalled. “I heard all these people start shouting, ‘Habemus papam! Habemus papam!’ People are just running down the street.” The singer described how his barber paused to inform him about the announcement of a new pope, leading Styles to realize he was only a short walk away from the event.
After the conclusion of his two-year-long tour, “Love On Tour,” in 2023, Styles had taken a step back from the public eye. His visit to the Vatican came shortly after the passing of Pope Francis in April 2025 at the age of 88. Following this, Catholic cardinals elected the first U.S. pope, Chicago-born missionary Robert Prevost, as the 267th pontiff.
Styles’ unexpected encounter with history coincided with a period of personal reflection and recovery. In the past year, he has engaged in various activities, including participating in a marathon in Tokyo in March and joining a running club in London the following month.
As Styles prepares to re-enter the music scene, he has announced the upcoming release of his fourth solo album, titled Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, scheduled for March 6, 2025. Alongside this new project, Styles is set to embark on the “Together, Together” tour, commencing on May 16 in Amsterdam and concluding on December 13 in Sydney, Australia.
With this mixture of personal growth and professional resurgence, Styles continues to capture the public’s attention, both for his music and his unexpected participation in a pivotal moment for the Catholic Church.
