William J. Clark, Celebrated Businessman and Family Man, Dies at 78

UPDATE: William J. Clark, a respected businessman and beloved family figure, has passed away at the age of 78. He died peacefully on November 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and community service.

Born on January 18, 1947, in Lowell, MA, Clark dedicated his life to family, work, and philanthropy. After marrying Deborah J. Meisner on October 4, 1969, the couple enjoyed a deep bond that lasted 56 years. Their story is one of unwavering love and friendship, a testament to their strong partnership.

Clark was a formidable presence in the construction industry, launching his first business, Clark Bros. Masonry, in 1969. His ventures included the establishment of Merganser Corporation and Turnstone Corporation, in which he worked alongside his daughter, Stacy. His commitment to excellence was recognized in 1997 when he became the first recipient of the New Hampshire Construction Industry Ethics Award.

He was not only a successful businessman but also a devoted community member. Clark served on various boards, including the Association of General Contractors and the Nashua Boys Club, for a combined total of 16 years. His dedication to affordable housing in the 1980s showcased his passion for improving his community.

Clark’s love for life extended to leisure activities, particularly golf. He enjoyed playing at multiple country clubs and was an avid participant in curling competitions during the 1980s and 1990s. He cherished weekends spent ice fishing and celebrating holidays with his family, often hosting gatherings of up to 50 people.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah, and three daughters: Mimi Rainford, Stacy J. Clark, and Stephanie J. Clark, along with several grandchildren and extended family. His passing leaves a significant void in the lives of those he touched through his kindness and generosity.

Visiting hours are scheduled for 1 to 3 PM and 5 to 8 PM on December 11, 2025, at Mayhew Funeral Home in Meredith, NH. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM on December 12 at St. Charles Church in Meredith. A private ceremony at the NH Veterans Cemetery will take place at a later date.
