UPDATE: An urgent situation is unfolding in Broomall, Pennsylvania, as residents and animal rescuers rally to help a fox seen with a piece of plastic tubing tightly stuck around its neck. The concerning sighting was captured at approximately 2 a.m. on October 1 by local resident Bill Shuker, who reported the fox wandering near his chicken coop.
“This fox appears to be looking for food,” Shuker stated. Upon closer inspection of his video footage, he realized the obstruction extends from the animal’s head down to its neck. Animal rescue group Good Boy Dog Recovery, typically focused on dogs, has taken a keen interest in this case, believing the fox is entangled in corrugated plastic piping.
Colleen Bell, president of Good Boy Dog Recovery, expressed the urgency of the situation, highlighting the potential dangers the fox faces if the tubing remains on. “The longer he has it on, the more difficult it’s going to be for him to hydrate and eat. With winter approaching, there’s real urgency to get it off,” Bell warned.
The rescue group became involved after community members tagged them on social media. They are equipped with humane traps, live surveillance cameras, tracking equipment, and thermal drone technology to locate the fox and execute a rescue plan. Currently, the fox’s whereabouts are unknown, but Bell and her team are diligently working on a trapping strategy with guidance from the Pocono Wildlife and Rehab Center.
Bell urged the public to continue reporting any sightings while stressing the importance of keeping a safe distance. “It’s incredibly important that people do not approach the fox. They can bite, and we don’t want anyone getting injured,” she cautioned.
Shuker noted that while predators have been spotted near his coop, no chickens have been harmed so far. “Fortunately for the chickens, at a certain time they go into the coop and the door shuts – so they’re safe that way,” he added.
The situation remains critical as the community mobilizes to assist the distressed animal. Authorities emphasize the need for vigilance, asking anyone who sees the fox to share the day, time, and direction of travel with Good Boy Dog Recovery.
As this story develops, officials continue to monitor the situation, and the community hopes for a swift resolution to help the fox.
