Tewksbury Mourns Loss of Retired Fire Chief James J. Morris, 97

UPDATE: Tewksbury is mourning the loss of retired Fire Chief James J. Morris, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on November 12, 2025, at the age of 97. Morris dedicated his life to serving his community, leaving a legacy of bravery and commitment.

Morris, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, was beloved by many. He is survived by his devoted wife, Constance R. Morris, with whom he shared an incredible 73 years of marriage. The couple raised four children: Deborah J. Goodwin, James W. Morris, Constance R. Morris, and the late Frederick R. Morris. His family also includes 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, highlighting the profound impact he had on his loved ones.

Born in Lowell, MA, on June 28, 1928, Morris served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era before starting a remarkable career with the Tewksbury Fire Department. After 38 years of dedicated service, he retired as Fire Chief in 1988, earning respect and admiration for his commitment to protecting the town he cherished.

The community remembers Morris not only for his service but also for his warmth and kindness. He was a figure of strength and support for many, and his passing is felt deeply throughout Tewksbury.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on November 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, located at 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury. The services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
