Staten Island vs. New Jersey Challenge Kicks Off Sunday at 11 AM

UPDATE: The highly anticipated 19th annual Coaches Choice USA Staten Island vs. New Jersey Challenge is set to unfold this Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Moore Catholic in Graniteville, featuring an exciting lineup of five games. With tip-off scheduled for 11 AM, this event promises thrilling matchups and a unique coaching twist.

The second game of the day will shine a spotlight on local talent as Staten Island Academy faces off against Bound Brook. Both head coaches, Sandy Litkenhaus and Jen Derenjanik, are esteemed former winners of the prestigious Jaques Award. Litkenhaus, who clinched the award in the 1986-87 season, is in her inaugural year coaching SIA, while Derenjanik, a remarkable three-time Jaques winner (1998-2000), is in her 12th season leading Bound Brook.

This year’s event has been made possible through the efforts of former Islander and St. John Villa varsity coach James Martinos, ensuring that the tradition of high-quality girls’ basketball continues to thrive in the region.
