Snow Flurries Forecasted as Baltimore Welcomes New Year

URGENT UPDATE: Baltimore is bracing for possible snow flurries as the city gears up to welcome the new year. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a forecast indicating a 20% chance of snow on Wednesday morning and again overnight into early January 1, 2024.

As residents prepare for New Year’s Eve festivities, they can expect partly sunny conditions during the day with temperatures peaking near 36°F. However, skies will turn mostly cloudy by evening, dropping to a low around 25°F and maintaining that 20% chance of snow overnight.

In addition to the winter weather, wind conditions around Baltimore are expected to calm down significantly, with gusts barely surpassing 10 mph on Wednesday, marking a respite from the strong winds that have impacted the area this week.

Power outages that initially affected tens of thousands of residents have been dramatically reduced to about 20 as of Wednesday morning, according to Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. (BGE). For those still experiencing outages, BGE encourages customers to report them via their website, mobile app, or by texting 69243 or calling 877-778-2222.

Looking ahead to January 1, 2024, Baltimoreans can expect sunny skies with a high near 32°F and clear conditions at night, dropping to a low around 20°F. On January 2, 2024, the weather is projected to remain partly sunny with temperatures reaching around 37°F.

As the city prepares to celebrate the arrival of a new year, residents are reminded to dress warmly and stay informed about the weather conditions. With snow flurries potentially adding a festive touch to the celebrations, now is the time to ensure you are ready for whatever the sky may bring.
