The most recent incident occurred late Saturday night, when a vehicle struck Alexander Leroux, 57, in the 3500 block of India Street in the Middletown district at approximately 11:55 p.m.. He was rushed to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Just hours earlier, another pedestrian fatality was reported in San Diego. At around 6 p.m. on Saturday, a 2011 Jeep Liberty hit Eduardo Sanchez, 83, in the 200 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard. Police stated Sanchez suffered severe injuries including a brain bleed and pelvic fracture, and he succumbed to his injuries the following evening at UCSD Medical Center.
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, November 15, Esteban Rodriguez, 21, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Spring Valley. His northbound sedan veered off state Route 125, crashing into a tree at around 5:30 a.m.. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a devastating loss for the local community.
Another incident occurred just days prior. At approximately 4:30 a.m. on November 20, Guillermo Pagan, 55, was struck by an eastbound SUV while walking along state Route 94 in Jamul. He was gravely injured and died before paramedics could transport him to a hospital.
On November 19, at around 4:45 a.m., Eleanor Anslow, 38, was fatally struck near the 7500 block of Mission Gorge Road in the San Carlos district. Reports indicate she was in the roadway for an unknown reason when multiple vehicles collided with her, resulting in her death at the scene.
The first reported fatality in this tragic series involved Lucy Prewitt Starkes, 89, who was involved in a collision at a Jamacha-area intersection on the morning of November 18. Shortly after 10:30 a.m., while making a left turn from westbound Imperial Avenue onto Viewcrest Drive, her Volkswagen Jetta was struck by an oncoming Ford Excursion. Starkes was hospitalized at Scripps Mercy Hospital due to extensive injuries, including brain bleeds and spinal fractures, but she passed away six days later.
These incidents highlight the urgent need for heightened road safety awareness in the region. Authorities are urging drivers and pedestrians alike to remain vigilant to prevent further tragedies.
