Rocky Heights Middle School Welcomes Future Students, Eases Transition

URGENT UPDATE: Today, July 15, 2023, principal Chris Cooke of Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) officially welcomed fifth-grade students from Timber Trail Elementary to their first-ever tour of the middle school. This pivotal event is designed to ease the transition for students preparing to leave elementary school behind.

The shift from fifth grade to middle school brings excitement, but it can also be an overwhelming experience for many young adolescents. For the first time, students will navigate multiple classrooms and manage complex schedules, marking a significant step toward independence. To address this, RHMS is committed to supporting its future students through engaging school visits.

During the tours, students walked the halls of RHMS alongside staff and current students, who answered questions and shared insights. This hands-on experience is vital for alleviating anxiety about this major life change. Principal Cooke expressed enthusiasm about the readiness of the students, stating,

“The students are so ready to be in middle school. They have worked so hard to get to this point, and we wanted to bring them into our school, help them to get a feel for the hearts of the people here and show them the exciting opportunities they will experience in this new environment.”

The morning visits concluded with energetic students returning to their elementary schools, filled with confidence and a better understanding of what awaits them as they become Nighthawks. Robert Thelen, principal of Timber Trail Elementary, praised the initiative, saying,

“Experiences like this are a strong example of what makes the RCHS feeder pattern truly exceptional.”

This proactive approach by RHMS not only prepares students for academic challenges but also fosters a sense of community that will be crucial as they embark on their middle school journey. As these fifth graders step into their new roles, the school community stands ready to support them every step of the way.
