Riverside Animal Shelters Urgently Seek Dog Fosters, Adoptions

UPDATE: Riverside County animal shelters are in a state of crisis, with over 1,000 dogs in need of urgent foster and forever homes. The San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus is currently operating at a staggering 270% capacity, prompting officials to call for immediate community action.

Authorities confirm that without swift intervention, many dogs face the risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding. The Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS) is urging residents to step up by adopting or fostering dogs, particularly large breeds, as the situation grows increasingly dire.

“Immediate action is needed,” said RCDAS Director Mary Martin in a statement. “Operating in critical overcapacity puts animals at risk of sickness or injury and is not safe for pets or staff.” The department has set a goal to adopt or foster 30 large dogs from the San Jacinto shelter within the next two days, by November 6.

All pets are available for adoption at no cost, which includes essential services such as spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations, and an engraved ID tag. This is a unique opportunity for those looking to provide a loving home while also contributing to the welfare of these animals.

In addition to adoptions, RCDAS is urgently seeking foster homes that can accommodate a dog for at least two weeks. Supplies will be provided to all foster families to help ease the burden.

This is a pivotal moment for the community to come together and make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable pets. Share this urgent plea to help spread the word and encourage others to take action. Together, we can save lives.
