New Learning Center Opens at West Broad Street YMCA in Savannah

UPDATE: A new connectivity center has just opened at the West Broad Street YMCA in Savannah, Georgia, providing vital digital resources to the community. This center is part of a larger initiative by AT&T, which aims to support 100 connecting learning centers nationwide by 2027.

The center, launched earlier today, offers free access to essential digital tools, including 15 computers and complimentary Wi-Fi. This initiative is a lifeline for many, especially students, seniors, and job seekers who struggle to afford such resources. “It’s an opportunity to invest in the community,” said Gary Sanchez, Regional Director of External Affairs for AT&T.

Local resident Joseph Bruen, who grew up near the YMCA, expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility, stating, “I’m certainly glad I’m able to be here to see this happen because it was needed, and I know the community is going to appreciate it.” His words highlight the emotional significance of this center for those who have long sought access to technology.

The lab will be operational from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday, and is open to everyone. Users can reserve the space for various needs, including research and teaching. Tanya Milton, County Commissioner for the 5th district, emphasized the center’s impact, saying, “To have the ability to be able to search the web and to learn just opens you up; I think it’s just amazing.”

With this being the first connected learning center in Savannah and the eighth in Georgia, the initiative marks a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this invaluable resource.

As AT&T continues its mission to enhance community connectivity, the opening of this center signals a promising future for digital access in Savannah. The community is urged to share their experiences and make the most of these new opportunities.
