URGENT UPDATE: A beloved micro farm in Altadena is reopening its doors to the community following the devastating Eaton Fire, which forced a family to evacuate with their 70 animals. Experience Fable, run by White and Joey Chavez, is now welcoming visitors to interact with rescued animals like chickens, sheep, and goats on Loma Alta Drive.
This remarkable comeback is made possible by a timely $10,000 grant from LISC LA’s Wildfire Relief Grant program, supported by Wells Fargo. “That grant came at the perfect time,” White stated, highlighting how critical the funds were for rebuilding after losing their home and land.
As the family navigated the aftermath of the fire, their animals were temporarily housed in various locations, including Venice Beach and the LA Equestrian Center, before ultimately relocating to San Diego. “We literally had turkeys in the carport and on the side of her condo,” White recalled. Now, the resilient family is focused on creating a nurturing environment.
Experience Fable aims to reopen weekly for local groups while searching for a more permanent location in Altadena. “This is home,” White emphasized. “Somewhere here in the foothills, nature, beautiful place, that’s the next step.”
With this reopening, the family is not just rebuilding their farm but also revitalizing community spirit. They invite locals to come and share in the joy of their returning animals, marking a significant milestone in their recovery journey.
As the Chavez family continues to mend their lives and their community ties, this story serves as a poignant reminder of resilience in the face of adversity. The reopening of Experience Fable is expected to inspire hope and connection in the Altadena area, inviting everyone to witness the rebirth of a cherished local sanctuary.
Stay tuned for updates as the family works towards securing a more permanent home for their animals and community gatherings.
