UPDATE: A man has been charged with attempted murder and other serious offenses following a shocking freeway shooting in Livermore that occurred earlier this year. Authorities have issued a warrant for Luis Guerrero, aged 36, who allegedly fired multiple shots at another driver during a heated road rage incident on June 11, 2023.
The alarming incident unfolded around 9:02 AM on eastbound Interstate 580 near Flynn Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Guerrero, driving a 2005 GMC Yukon SUV, became embroiled in a road rage altercation with the victim, a man operating a Tesla. The details of their argument remain unclear, but it escalated to gunfire.
Witnesses reported that Guerrero pulled alongside the Tesla and opened fire, but fortunately, the victim escaped unharmed. Quick-thinking on the part of the driver allowed him to capture the license plate number of the Yukon, which he provided to CHP dispatchers when reporting the incident.
Law enforcement agencies were alerted, and by 11:25 AM, San Leandro police spotted Guerrero’s vehicle in the vicinity of Williams Street and Aurora Drive. Officers attempted to stop the Yukon, but Guerrero resisted arrest and was subsequently subdued with a taser. He was transported to a hospital for treatment before being booked at Santa Rita Jail.
In addition to attempted murder, Guerrero faces charges including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. Court records reveal that Guerrero was also in possession of an unregistered .45 caliber pistol and shell casings found in his vehicle.
Despite his arrest on the day of the shooting, Guerrero later made bail and has since evaded authorities. His current whereabouts are unknown, prompting law enforcement to intensify their search for him.
