Local Horsewoman Wins Hundreds of Trophies, Inspires Community

UPDATE: Community member and passionate horsewoman, Sara Margaret Renfroe, is making headlines with her impressive collection of hundreds of first-place blue ribbons, trophies, and silver trays showcasing her exceptional skills in the equestrian world. Living on Flavia Circle in North Troy, Mrs. Renfroe’s achievements reflect years of dedication and triumph in horse showing.

Mrs. Renfroe, who owns 12 registered Tennessee Walking Horses, started her horse journey inspired by her father’s interest in horses. “I show my horses from April to November all over Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and sometimes Florida,” she explained, highlighting the rigorous travel and competition schedule that has become a part of her life.

Having invested $1,100 in a colt years ago, Mrs. Renfroe has built a successful career in the world of horse showing. The Tennessee Walking Horse breed, known for its grace and majesty, requires meticulous training. “Horses are just like athletes,” she said. “They are good as long as they are in shape.” Daily training is essential to maintain their competition readiness.

Mrs. Renfroe prefers riding with an English saddle, which allows her to engage more directly with her horses. “Fine horsemanship is necessary to train and ride these horses,” she noted, emphasizing the skill involved in competing at a high level. Each ribbon she earns holds a special significance, as every competition brings its own excitement and challenges.

In addition to her equestrian pursuits, Mrs. Renfroe’s family also thrives in their respective fields. Her son, Frank Renfroe, is currently working on his second film as a producer and director in New York, while her other son, Gene Renfroe, is expanding his entrepreneurial ventures with a second Popeye Fried Chicken outlet in Pensacola.

As a long-time resident of Troy, Mrs. Renfroe reflects on her lifelong connection to horses, stating, “Although we lived on the main street of town, we used to have horses roaming in our backyard.” This deeply rooted passion for horsemanship continues to inspire not only her family but also the greater North Troy community.
