Lindsey Vonn Secures 142nd Podium with Bronze in Val d’Isere

UPDATE: Lindsey Vonn has clinched her 142nd career podium after securing back-to-back bronze medals at the Val d’Isere World Cup on December 21, 2025. The legendary skier finished just 0.36 seconds behind the leader, marking a thrilling conclusion to the World Cup speed weekend in France.

Italy’s Sofia Goggia dominated the super-G event, finishing in 1 minute, 20.24 seconds, to claim her first victory of the season. Goggia’s win not only highlights her determination after a disappointing performance the previous day but also ties her with Hilde Gerg for eighth on the all-time super-G wins list, with 8 victories—a record held by Vonn at 28 wins.

In an emotional statement, Goggia expressed her relief and determination after overcoming a costly mistake in Saturday’s downhill event. “Yesterday was really an emotional day for me. I was really angry; I was really disappointed with myself,” she told reporters. “The pain I felt yesterday was the gasoline I put on my race today.”

New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, who surprised everyone with her previous win in St. Moritz, finished in second place. Despite leading early, she acknowledged the windy conditions affected her performance: “I thought I could have done it better,” Robinson said. “I’m happy that I was still able to stay in touch.”

Vonn, aged 41, demonstrated her resilience throughout the race. She posted a strong start but lost time after brushing a gate at the Le Telephone jump. “I didn’t quite have enough direction on the first jump,” Vonn noted, adding that she felt satisfied with her overall performance despite the minor setback. Her finishing time of 1:20.60 reflects her continued competitiveness on the World Cup circuit.

With this podium finish, Vonn has displayed remarkable consistency, with her last six race results being: 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 3rd, and 3rd. “I’m not disappointed in my skiing. It’s really hard to always be on the podium, so I’m walking away with a smile,” she said, showcasing her enduring spirit.

As the season progresses, the women’s World Cup circuit will head to Semmering for two tech races on December 27-28. Meanwhile, the speed racers will have a break until January 10-11, when downhill and super-G events will take place in Zauchensee.

Stay tuned for further updates as Vonn, Goggia, and the rest of the elite competitors continue to battle for supremacy in the World Cup standings!
