LA Metro Urges Transit Use for Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Events

UPDATE: LA Metro has just announced urgent transit options for those attending the 2024 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl in Pasadena on January 1. With numerous streets closed and parking at a premium, officials recommend going car-less and utilizing public transportation to avoid delays and congestion.

The Rose Parade kicks off at 8 a.m., and the best way to arrive is via the A Line light rail, which connects Long Beach to Pomona and has six stations in Pasadena. Riders can disembark at Del Mar Station and enjoy a scenic 0.3-mile walk north on Raymond Avenue to reach the parade route on Colorado Boulevard. For those wanting to see the floats line up, the 0.8-mile trek to Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard is also an option.

To catch the middle of the parade, exit at Memorial Park Station, just a 0.2-mile stroll south on Arroyo Parkway. If you’re coming from the Inland Empire or Orange County, Metrolink and Amtrak services can take you to Union Station, where you can transfer to the A Line.

This year, the 112th Rose Bowl game is set to feature a thrilling matchup between No. 1-ranked Indiana and No. 9 Alabama, starting at 1 p.m.—an hour earlier than usual. After exiting at Memorial Park Station, attendees should turn right and follow signs to the free shuttle buses at the corner of Holly and Corson streets, running from 9 a.m. until two hours after the game concludes.

In addition to the parade and game, fans can enjoy Bandfest, showcasing marching bands and cheer squads at Pasadena City College on December 29 and 30. General admission is priced at $26.50. Access the venue via the A Line to Allen Station, followed by a 0.9-mile walk to Robinson Stadium.

Following the parade, attendees can experience Floatfest, featuring stunning floats from January 1 to 3. Tickets are also priced at $26.50, with children under five admitted free. The event takes place at the intersection of Sierra Madre and Washington boulevards. Board the A Line to Sierra Madre Villa Station for shuttle services to the showcase.

Metro fares are affordable at $1.75 for a one-way trip and $3.50 roundtrip, with free transfers available for two hours. Riders can purchase TAP cards at vending machines located at all Metro Rail and Busway stations, or use a digital TAP card on their smartphones.

As excitement builds for these iconic events, LA Metro emphasizes the importance of planning ahead and utilizing transit options. Stay tuned for more updates on transit schedules and event details as the festivities approach.
