BREAKING: John J. Waterworth Sr., a beloved figure in Dracut, has passed away at the age of 80 on December 9, 2025, at The High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. His death marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to service, family, and community.
Waterworth was born on July 31, 1945, in Lowell, Massachusetts, and spent his entire life in the region. He served honorably in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Waterworth’s professional career spanned nearly 48 years at The MITRE Corporation in Bedford, where he retired as an Engineer in 2013.
A devoted member of St. Monica Parish in Methuen, Waterworth contributed as a lector and an Eucharistic Minister. His commitment to community service extended to the Knights of Columbus Council 14725 and the St. Vincent De Paul Society, and he also volunteered at Lowell General Hospital.
Waterworth is predeceased by his loving wife, Claire (Hamel), daughter Amy, son Kevin, and brother Thomas Waterworth Jr.. He is survived by his partner, Cookie Maggio, and three sons: John J. Waterworth Jr. and his wife Heather, Scott Waterworth and his wife Jacqueline, and Brian Waterworth and his wife Lisa. He leaves behind two sisters, Anne Laughran and Mary Erickson, one brother, Edward Waterworth, and a large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John is remembered for his warmth, dedication to family, and unwavering support for his community. Visiting hours are scheduled for December 16th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Edgar J. Racicot Inc. Funeral Home, located at 1400 Broadway Rd., Dracut. A funeral Mass will follow on December 17th at 10:30 AM at St. Monica Church in Methuen, with burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
