Holy Family Haven Launches 72 Affordable Apartments in Clarkston

BREAKING: Clarkston’s newest affordable housing complex, Holy Family Haven, officially opened its doors today, providing 72 affordable apartments for families in need. The grand opening ceremony, held at 1411 Port Drive, drew students from Holy Family Catholic School, who played a crucial role in naming the complex through their artwork and ideas.

According to Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing, half of the units are already occupied, with more families moving in as we speak. “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening,” Mallahan stated during the ceremony attended by community leaders and the Horizon Housing Alliance.

The complex received a blessing from a priest during the ceremony, underscoring its significance to the community. Mayor Monika Lawrence highlighted the project’s potential, praising John Pilcher, executive director of Horizon Housing Alliance, for delivering a “top-notch housing project.” Pilcher emphasized that Holy Family Haven is designed to be a safe and secure community, not a homeless shelter.

Families with incomes ranging from 30% to 60% of the area median income can apply for the remaining units, as 30% are still available. Mallahan noted, “It’s not just a place to live. It’s a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives and achieve their goals.” The complex will also offer a comprehensive suite of support services, including mental health counseling, transportation to medical appointments, and employment assistance.

KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment provided $31.4 million in capital for the construction of Holy Family Haven. Seventy of the apartments are designated for families and individuals earning between 30% to 60% of the area median income, while 35 units are reserved for those who have experienced homelessness.

In addition to housing, Catholic Charities will coordinate fresh food distribution and other essential services aimed at supporting families in their journey toward stability. Interested families are encouraged to apply through housing.cceasternwa.org/how-to-apply.

This urgent initiative represents a significant step forward for affordable housing in Clarkston, addressing the pressing needs of the community. As families begin to settle in, the impact of Holy Family Haven will be felt immediately, providing hope and opportunity for a brighter future.
