Hatboro Man Jailed for Attempted Illegal Gun Sale to Undercover

BREAKING: A Hatboro man, Eric Scott “Ghost” Haegele, has been sentenced to 6 to 12 months in county jail after admitting to attempting an illegal gun sale to an undercover detective. The incident unfolded on September 10, 2024, when Haegele, 43, believed he was conducting a routine sale but instead was caught in a police sting operation.

Court documents reveal that Haegele attempted to sell three firearms, including a 9mm Ruger P95 pistol and an American Tactical AR-15, to the undercover officer. He negotiated a price of $400 and discussed bypassing legal background checks, indicating significant disregard for gun laws.

Authorities began investigating Haegele in August 2024 after receiving tips about a man using the nickname “Ghost” who was attempting to sell firearms illegally. Detective Zachary Zeoli of Abington Township confirmed that Haegele had sent photos of the guns and was well aware of the illegal nature of his actions. In a text message, he stated, “No paperwork…all my guns are illegal,” highlighting his intent to evade the law.

The operation culminated on September 10, when Haegele arrived at the meeting location on Moreland Road in Willow Grove, prepared to finalize the cash transaction. Police seized the firearms he brought and arrested him on the spot. Haegele’s actions raise serious concerns about illegal gun trafficking and public safety.

Judge Thomas M. DelRicci allowed Haegele eligibility for the jail’s house arrest program after serving three months, and he will also face two years of probation following his release. Haegele admitted to acquiring the firearms illegally from an unidentified individual in Philadelphia without completing necessary background checks.

As gun violence continues to be a pressing issue, this case underscores the ongoing risks posed by illegal firearm sales. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to firearms to help combat this growing threat.

With the rise of gun-related crimes, the legal repercussions for individuals like Haegele serve as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to firearm regulations. The community watches closely as the legal proceedings unfold, emphasizing the need for vigilance in preventing illegal arms transactions.
