URGENT UPDATE: A significant Veterans Day ceremony is set to take place on Tuesday, November 11, at the Weld County Veterans Memorial in Greeley. The event will kick off at 11 a.m., honoring those who have served in the military.
This year’s keynote speaker is Master Gunnery Sergeant Brian Ivers, a distinguished veteran with five combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His powerful insights are expected to resonate deeply with attendees as the community comes together to pay tribute to its veterans.
The Northridge High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps will lead the presentation of colors, while Isamar Chavira performs the national anthem. The Greeley Central High School Band will provide musical accompaniment, enhancing the emotional atmosphere of the event.
Master of ceremonies Shawn Harmer, a member of the Weld County Veterans Memorial Committee, will guide the program. Pastor John Musil of Living Grace Baptist Church will offer the invocation and benediction, ensuring a solemn and respectful tone throughout the ceremony.
Additionally, the Union Colony Marine Corps League 1093 will perform a traditional rifle salute and play taps to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Following the ceremony, veterans and their families are invited to a free soup luncheon hosted by the Greeley VFW Post and Auxiliary 2121. This community gathering will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at 2514 7th Ave, providing an opportunity for fellowship and gratitude.
The public is encouraged to attend this important event, which not only honors veterans but also highlights the ongoing efforts of the Weld County Veterans Memorial Association. The association welcomes donations for the maintenance and repair of the memorial, which can be sent to PO Box 1016, Greeley, CO 80632. Annual memberships are also available for $25 per person.
This is a crucial opportunity for the community to come together, reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans, and show appreciation for their service. Don’t miss this chance to honor our heroes!
