URGENT UPDATE: Gilbert Regional Park is preparing for a flurry of pickleball activity this winter, but local players need to be aware of several upcoming court closures. The town of Gilbert has confirmed that tournaments will temporarily take over the courts, starting with the AZIAPL Private Tournament, which will close courts 1-8 for regular play from the afternoon of November 1 until 8:00 PM on November 2, 2023.
Following this tournament, high school players should mark their calendars for the evening of November 25, when the courts will again be dedicated solely to tournament play. The holiday season will also see the courts bustling with activity as they host the “Pickleball is Great Holiday Classic” from December 26 to 28, 2023.
As the New Year approaches, the “More Bang for the Buck Tournament” will take place in early January 2024, further restricting access to the courts. The excitement continues with the “2026 Winter Classic Tournament,” scheduled for February 20-22, 2024. After each tournament, courts will reopen to the public, eager for community play once more.
During these tournament days, players should anticipate crowded conditions, as court access will be on a first-come, first-served basis. With high demand expected, participants are encouraged to follow a court rotation system to ensure fair play. For those unable to secure a court, alternative locations such as Arbuckle Park and Arrowhead Meadows Park are available for additional pickleball opportunities.
