UPDATE: Gavin Casalegno has just shared his thoughts on the love triangle in The Summer I Turned Pretty, declaring that newcomer Denise is a better match for Jeremiah than Belly. Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly at the T-Mobile unveiling during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Casalegno emphasized the unique connection between Denise and Jeremiah that sets it apart from his long-standing relationship with Belly.
“I think Denise does see Jeremiah in a different light,” the 26-year-old actor stated. “Belly growing up with Jeremiah introduces familiarity that might have stunted things.” He noted that Denise brings out new aspects of Jeremiah, saying, “Denise is more real and brings different parts of Jeremiah out of him.” However, he expressed caution about Jeremiah’s decision to pursue a relationship so soon after the series finale, quipping, “It might be a little too early for him to be jumping back into a relationship.”
Jeremiah’s relationship with Denise ended the series, but Casalegno admitted he had reservations about this twist. “Whatever makes him happy, go for it, but I am definitely hesitant about a relationship for him,” he added, highlighting his protective instincts for the character.

Casalegno revealed, “I don’t have a script. I don’t have anything. I know I’m filming next year, so I don’t even know what it’s going to be about.”
