UPDATE: The Front Range holiday markets kick off this weekend, offering an exciting opportunity to shop local and support artisans just in time for the festive season. The Boulder County Farmers Markets’ Winter Market will take place on December 6-7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont, featuring over 150 local farmers and artisans.
This year, shoppers can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with handcrafted goods, delicious food, and the chance to connect with local creators. The event promises a mix of fresh produce, handmade ornaments, and unique gifts, all under one roof. “Every vendor makes what they sell,” says Liz Thomas, senior markets manager for Boulder County Farmers Markets. “These are Colorado makers and Colorado growers.”
In addition to the Winter Market, the Niwot Holiday Native Art Market is set for November 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Niwot Hall. This one-day event will showcase the work of 15 Indigenous artists, featuring traditional and contemporary pieces, from jewelry to pottery. Tom Myer, organizer and founder of Thunder Wolf Native Arts & Culture, emphasizes the importance of supporting local Indigenous artists, stating, “It feels so much better to give our money to our local people.”
The Winter Market is not just about shopping; it’s a community celebration. Attendees can enjoy live music, a scavenger hunt, and even an ugly sweater contest. Outside, a food court with patio heaters will offer warming treats, making it an ideal outing for families and friends.
Authorities report that as holiday markets begin across the Front Range, shoppers are encouraged to skip the digital aisles and embrace the charm of local markets. Each purchase made at these events supports small businesses, fostering community spirit during the holiday season.
The Boulder County Farmers Markets Winter Market is just one of many events happening this December. Other notable local holiday markets include:
1. **Boulder Mountain Handmade Market** – A fundraiser featuring 55 artisans from November 8-9.
2. **Firefly Handmade Holiday** – An artisan showcase on November 15-16 at Pearl Street Mall.
3. **Holiday Artisan Market** – Supporting local artists with unique gifts on December 5.
As the holiday season approaches, these markets offer a welcome alternative to the impersonal big-box shopping experience. With opportunities to meet the makers and hear their stories, the Front Range holiday markets embody the spirit of giving and community connection.
For anyone looking to make their holiday shopping meaningful, the time to act is NOW. Mark your calendars and join the locals in supporting small businesses this festive season!
