Freeze Warning Hits North Texas Tonight as Arctic Air Arrives

URGENT UPDATE: A Freeze Warning has just been issued for nearly all of North Texas, beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday and lasting until 9 a.m. Monday. The National Weather Service upgraded the previous Freeze Watch due to the swift arrival of modified Arctic air, bringing the coldest conditions of the season.

Residents are urged to take immediate precautions as temperatures are expected to plunge near or below 32 degrees overnight. While no precipitation is forecasted, the cold front will create hazardous conditions that may impact daily activities.

Immediate actions are recommended: protect vulnerable plants, bring pets indoors, and dress in multiple layers if venturing outside late tonight or early Monday morning.

The situation is exacerbated by strong northerly winds, which will sustain speeds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts potentially reaching up to 35 mph. This wind chill will make it feel significantly colder, with “feel like” temperatures dropping into the upper 20s and low 30s across the region.

Today started with temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s, but the cold front will limit highs to just below 60 degrees. Overnight lows in the Metroplex could reach freezing, while outlying areas like Denton and Collin counties may see temperatures dip into the upper 20s.

This frigid spell is expected to be brief. A shift to southerly winds is predicted by Tuesday, with temperatures rebounding into the mid to upper 70s and even the low 80s by the end of the week. Following the warm-up, there is a low chance of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for next weekend.
