UPDATE: A free spay/neuter clinic is officially open in Austin, with services running from November 13 to November 17, 2025. This initiative, a collaboration between Austin Animal Services and Greater Good Charities, aims to provide critical veterinary care to the pets of Austin and Travis County at no cost, addressing the urgent issue of pet overpopulation.
The clinic will benefit 1,200 animals, offering spay and neuter procedures, free vaccinations, microchips, and flea/tick prevention treatments. “As Austin’s municipal shelter, we’re committed to ensuring every pet owner—regardless of income or neighborhood—has access to the services that keep pets healthy and communities safe,” stated Rolando Fernandez, Interim Director of Animal Services.
Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early for this much-needed service, as operations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration opens at 6:00 AM each day and will continue until 10:00 AM or until capacity is reached, at the clinic’s location: 11580 Stonehollow Dr., Suite 160, Austin, TX 78758.
This clinic marks the sixth such event in the past year, aiming to further reduce the number of stray and homeless pets in the community. Previous clinics have successfully provided surgeries for over 5,000 pets, highlighting the community’s commitment to responsible pet ownership and public health.
The urgency of this initiative cannot be overstated. With costs for similar procedures typically ranging from $75 to several hundred dollars, many pet owners face significant financial barriers. This free clinic not only alleviates those concerns but also reinforces the city’s dedication to animal welfare, making it a critical resource for the community.
As the clinic prepares for future events in early 2026, the focus remains on fostering a safer environment for both pets and residents. While the anticipated turnout may present some logistical challenges, the overarching goal is to uplift the well-being of pets and their owners alike.
Stay tuned for more updates on this vital community service, as it continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring that every pet has the opportunity for a healthy, happy life.
