URGENT UPDATE: The city of Fargo is preparing for significant snow removal efforts starting late tonight, December 14. Drivers are warned that cars left parked along east-west avenues may be impounded as snow removal begins in downtown Fargo.
The city’s Public Works Services Manager, Corey Houim, confirmed that crews will mobilize starting at 10 PM tonight, continuing into tomorrow morning. “With the potential for more snow in the forecast, we want to ensure downtown remains accessible and safe,” Houim stated.
Recent heavy snowfall has created a challenging parking situation for residents and visitors alike. Students like Charley Setterlund from North Dakota State University have expressed frustration. “Finding a parking spot has been difficult, especially with the snowbanks,” Setterlund said. “It’s risky trying to fit in tight spaces when visibility is limited.”
Drivers are urged to be cautious as snow removal equipment will be active on the streets. Houim added, “Please give us room to do our jobs safely. The equipment is loud, and we’re constantly moving and backing up.”
This snow removal operation is particularly crucial as it coincides with the busy weekend when many people are expected to enjoy local festivities and decorations. “These streets get a lot of traffic,” Setterlund noted. “It would have been better if this was addressed earlier, considering how many people walk around.”
Residents are reminded that parking is still permitted on streets facing north and south during this first round of snow removal. The city is committed to making downtown Fargo more accessible as the winter season continues to impact daily life.
