EF-1 Tornado Strikes Kendall, Comal Counties, Causing Damage

UPDATE: A late-night EF-1 tornado touched down in Kendall and Comal Counties on October 13, 2023, causing significant damage over a track of more than 20 miles. With peak winds reaching 110 mph and a width of up to 300 yards, the tornado left a trail of destruction but fortunately resulted in no injuries.

The tornado’s path of destruction was most pronounced near U.S. 281 and F.M. 306, where numerous trees and power poles were downed, and several roofs were damaged. Residents reported hearing the tornado roar through the area, leaving them shaken but relieved that they escaped physical harm.

In response to the tornado’s impact, part of East Commerce Street has been closed due to weakened construction scaffolding, posing further safety hazards in the wake of the storm. Local authorities and emergency crews are currently assessing the damage and working to restore power to affected areas, as many residents are still without electricity.

Officials from the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the tornado classification and have advised residents to stay alert for potential further weather developments in the region. Tornado watches and warnings may still be issued as weather conditions remain unstable.
