Downtown Fresno Welcomes First Dirty Soda Bar This Spring

UPDATE: Downtown Fresno is set to become home to its first dedicated “dirty soda bar” as Dad’s Cookies prepares to open at The Garage this spring. The announcement comes as the Utah-born drink trend continues to gain momentum, captivating social media and consumers alike.

Dirty soda, a nonalcoholic concoction that mixes soda with flavored syrups, creamers, and other flavors, is poised to transform the beverage landscape in Fresno. Imagine enjoying a refreshing blackberry vanilla Pepsi or a creamy Dr Pepper with lime—these innovative combinations promise to elevate familiar sodas into unique, customizable experiences.

Owner Lance Sanchez aims to create a bar-like atmosphere without the alcohol, focusing on craft presentation and creative combinations. “We want to make a dirty soda as if it’s a bar,” Sanchez stated, emphasizing the theatrical nature of watching drinks prepared right before customers’ eyes.

The Garage, located on Fulton Street in Fresno’s Brewery District, will not only feature dirty sodas but also an array of cookies, ice cream, and espresso drinks. This concept is designed to be a dessert destination, appealing to families, younger patrons, and those seeking alternatives to the typical downtown brewery scene.

Scheduled to open pending final permits and construction, Dad’s Cookies will be strategically positioned to attract foot traffic from nearby events, including baseball games at Chukchansi Park and local festivals. The anticipated opening date is this spring, with a preview showcasing tenants such as Gator’s Smash Burgers and Las Rancheritas set for March 21 at the FresYes Fest.

Sanchez views the food landscape as a collaborative space rather than a competitive one. “We don’t really look at it like competitors,” he remarked. “We look at it as a baking family.” This spirit of cooperation will allow for exciting partnerships with other food businesses, further enriching the culinary offerings at The Garage.

This development is not just a new venue; it represents a cultural shift in how Fresno’s food scene is evolving. The dirty soda trend taps into a growing desire for unique, customizable dining experiences. As anticipation builds, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to keep an eye on the evolving landscape of Downtown Fresno.
