Cold Front Arrives Friday, Clearing Haze Over San Antonio

URGENT UPDATE: A cold front is set to sweep through San Antonio on Friday, promising to clear the dense fog and improve air quality that has lingered throughout the week.

Residents awoke to thick fog on Wednesday morning, with similar conditions expected to persist into Thursday. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) reports that residual emissions from fire activity and urban aerosols have created a hazy atmosphere stretching from the Gulf Coast to deep South Texas.

Despite the thick haze, the air quality in San Antonio remains in the lower end of the “moderate” range, which means that the health of most residents is not significantly affected, according to officials. However, the TCEQ advises that sensitive groups should remain cautious.

On Friday, gusty winds associated with the cold front will stir up the stagnant air, pushing out humidity and improving conditions to the “good range.” This change will also result in a significant drop in daytime temperatures, with highs expected to plummet by around 20 degrees. After hovering around 80°F all week, temperatures are forecast to stay in the lower 60s over the weekend.

Residents can expect a much-needed respite from the haze and humidity as the cold front sweeps in. The TCEQ emphasizes the importance of these weather changes for overall air quality and public health.

As this situation develops, stay tuned for further updates on air quality improvements and weather conditions in the San Antonio area.
