Austin Reaves Could Return as Lakers Face Hornets Today

UPDATE: Austin Reaves is set to potentially return for the Los Angeles Lakers in today’s critical matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, following a week-long absence due to a right groin strain. The Lakers upgraded his status to questionable in their injury report released last night, just hours before the game.

Reaves has been sidelined since suffering the injury during the first quarter of the Lakers’ November 2 victory over the Miami Heat. In his first seven games this season, he averaged an impressive 31.1 points on 48.9% shooting, along with 9.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds. His return could be pivotal as the Lakers look to rebound from a disappointing 122-102 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.

Coach JJ Redick confirmed that Reaves underwent an MRI, which showed a “mild” strain. He expressed optimism about Reaves’ return, stating that the pain level is “really low” and suggested that the guard could be back in action during the ongoing five-game road trip.

The Lakers are eager to shake off the frustration from their latest defeat, which marked only their third loss of the season, dropping their record to 7-3. After the game, players voiced their determination to learn from the experience. “You just got to learn from it and move on,” said Jake LaRavia. “This game was an outlier of the first 10 games that we’ve played.”

Redick plans to analyze the film from the loss to identify areas for improvement, particularly their off-ball defense, which allowed the Hawks to exploit scoring opportunities. The team’s transition defense was also called into question, as they struggled to recover, leading to easy baskets for Atlanta.

“They killed us in transition, and they played amazing defensively. We weren’t ready for it,” stated player Deandre Ayton.

As for the Hornets, they will be without star guard LaMelo Ball for the fourth consecutive game due to a right ankle impingement, further complicating their matchup against a Lakers team looking to restore their momentum.
