17-Foot Capitol Christmas Tree Delivered from Turck’s Trees

URGENT UPDATE: A stunning 17-foot balsam fir from Turck’s Trees in Litchfield, Minnesota, has been delivered to the State Capitol, ready for decoration on Monday. This year’s Capitol Christmas tree, a symbol of holiday spirit, was chosen after Turck’s Trees won grand champion at the Minnesota State Fair earlier this year.

The tree arrived in St. Paul on Tuesday and was set up in the rotunda by Capitol staff, according to an official release from Turck’s Trees. This moment marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time Turck’s Trees has provided the Capitol Christmas tree, a cherished tradition in Minnesota.

The balsam fir, renowned for its rich green needles and delightful fragrance, will be on public display throughout the holiday season. Notably, this variety is prized for its natural conical shape and excellent needle retention, making it a favorite among Christmas tree enthusiasts.

Founded in 1875, Turck’s Trees is a family-owned business run by Joan and Steve Turck, with four generations actively involved. The farm spans approximately 100 acres, cultivating both Christmas and landscape trees. The family began planting Christmas trees in 1981 and has been selling them for over 35 years.

This year, Turck’s Trees stood out among more than 120 competing entries from members of the Minnesota Christmas Tree Association. The competition was fierce, as the farm previously secured the reserve grand champion title at the Minnesota State Fair in 2024 and provided trees to the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul.

As the holiday season approaches, the arrival of this majestic tree is a delightful reminder of Minnesota’s rich tradition of celebrating Christmas. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to visit the Capitol to experience the beauty of this year’s tree, which will remain on display well past Christmas Day.

Stay tuned for further updates as the Capitol prepares for the decoration ceremony and the festive activities surrounding this iconic tree. Share the joy of the season and this exciting news with friends and family!
