Postseason accolades continue to be awarded across Pennsylvania, with the Maxwell Football Club recently announcing its recipients for the prestigious Mini-Max Award. This honor recognizes high school athletes who excel not only in sports but also academically and within their communities. This year, a total of 55 athletes received the award, with an invitation to attend the Mini-Maxwell Awards ceremony scheduled for February 2024.
Among the recipients are three standout athletes from the Schuylkill League: Minersville quarterback Dante Carr, Tri-Valley linebacker Cole Gemberling, and Panther Valley quarterback Brody Breiner. Each of these young athletes has demonstrated exceptional talent on the field, alongside significant contributions in their academic pursuits and community involvement.
Dante Carr, who has signed with the University of Central Florida, has recently earned recognition as a Class AA All-State honoree. This past season, he threw for over 1,800 yards and achieved a remarkable 29 total touchdowns, setting a new school record in the process. In addition to his passing achievements, Carr added nearly 1,400 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns, culminating his high school career with totals of 5,891 passing yards, 3,535 rushing yards, and 136 total touchdowns.
Tri-Valley’s Cole Gemberling has also made a significant impact this season. As a Class A All-State selection, he led the Schuylkill League with 178 total tackles, bringing his career total to 408 tackles. In addition to his defensive prowess, Gemberling contributed offensively, accumulating 668 total yards and scoring nine touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Completing the trio, Brody Breiner of Panther Valley showcased his versatility on the field. This fall, he completed 145 of 239 passing attempts for 10 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,003 yards and an additional 10 touchdowns. Defensively, Breiner recorded 50 tackles, including two tackles for loss, highlighting his all-around contributions to the team.
The Mini-Max Award serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of these athletes, recognizing their achievements in sports, education, and community service. As the awards ceremony approaches, anticipation builds around which athlete will be honored as the state’s Player of the Year. The recognition will not only celebrate individual accomplishments but also inspire future generations of athletes within Pennsylvania and beyond.
