The Mineral Area women’s basketball team showcased an impressive performance on November 4, 2025, securing an emphatic victory over Wabash Valley with a score of 86-58. The game, held in Park Hills, saw the Cardinals establish early control, utilizing effective defensive pressure that led to multiple fast-break opportunities.
Lydia Kemnitzer led the charge for Mineral Area, contributing a team-high of 15 points. Her shooting from beyond the arc was particularly noteworthy, as she successfully made 5-of-10 attempts. The Cardinals demonstrated remarkable efficiency, shooting 53 percent from the field and converting 19-of-26 free throws, which allowed them to overcome the challenge of 24 turnovers during the match.
The first quarter was dominated by Mineral Area, which limited Wabash Valley to just one basket. Marceline Clermont played a pivotal role in this defensive effort, finishing with 13 points and five steals. Her contributions included a crucial 3-pointer and a transition layup that capped a strong 9-1 start for the Cardinals.
Mineral Area maintained a commanding 41-20 lead at halftime, bolstered by Casey Teague’s jumper. The third quarter saw the lead expand to 56-26, as Kemnitzer drained her fourth 3-pointer and Clermont executed a three-point play following a drive to the basket.
Wabash Valley’s efforts were led by freshman guard Shalyn Sprinkles, who notched a game-high 22 points, making all 10 of her free throw attempts. Aijia Elliott and Jordan Scott contributed eight points each, but the team struggled to keep pace with Mineral Area’s balanced scoring attack.
Alongside Kemnitzer and Clermont, P.J. Reutzel emerged as a fourth double-digit scorer for the Cardinals, adding 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Her performance included a layup following a steal and a successful three-pointer.
