Falmouth Alpine Teams Clinch SMAA Championships at Pleasant Mountain

Falmouth High School’s Alpine ski teams achieved significant success at the SMAA Championships, held at Pleasant Mountain. On February 7, 2024, both the boys’ and girls’ teams secured their respective titles, further solidifying Falmouth’s status in high school skiing.

Ian Christie led the boys’ team by clinching victories in both the slalom and giant slalom events. His impressive slalom time of 1:07.28 and giant slalom time of 1:15.73 contributed to the team’s total of 28 points, surpassing competitors such as Kennebunk (89 points), Marshwood (95 points), and Scarborough (263 points). Falmouth’s dominance in slalom was highlighted by additional strong performances from Liam Keefer, who finished second, Zach Small in fourth, and Blake Kingsley in fifth.

As the boys’ team prepares for the upcoming Class A title defense on February 23-24, 2024, at Saddleback Mountain, they carry the momentum of this championship win.

The girls’ team also showcased exceptional talent, amassing 47 points to defeat Scarborough (91 points), Kennebunk (111 points), Marshwood (122 points), and Windham (182 points). Margo Hesson captured the slalom title with a time of 1:12.25 and placed second in the giant slalom with a time of 1:21.67. Her performance was supported by teammates Ella Morse, who finished fifth in slalom and sixth in giant slalom, and Bridget Jacobsen, who came in fourth in giant slalom and seventh in slalom.

The competition also saw notable performances from other athletes. Scarborough’s Lena Asali won the giant slalom with a time of 1:21.54 and placed fourth in slalom. Marshwood’s Hazel Martin and Maeve Long finished second and third, respectively, in slalom, with Martin also securing third place in giant slalom.

On the boys’ side, Kennebunk’s Sam Good finished second in giant slalom and third in slalom, while teammate Jimmy McClellan placed third in giant slalom.

Falmouth’s Alpine teams continue to demonstrate their strength and skill, aiming for further success in upcoming competitions. As they prepare for the Class A championships, the momentum from their recent victories will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their pursuit of continued excellence in high school skiing.
