The South Iowa Cedar League (SICL) has recognized standout performances from local volleyball players with the announcement of its all-conference teams. Colfax-Mingo senior Britney Keeney and Lynnville-Sully senior Tatum Huyser have both been named to the first team, highlighting their impressive statistics during the past season.
Exceptional Performances by Area Players
Keeney finished the season ranked fifth in the SICL with 104 kills, sixth with 27 blocks, and ninth with 20 aces. In addition to these accomplishments, she contributed three assists and 44 digs, while achieving a serving accuracy of 125-of-141.
Huyser also delivered a strong performance, leading the Hawks with 77 kills, 142 digs, and 16 assists. She ranked fifth in the conference with 28 blocks and maintained a serving accuracy of 93-of-103. Both players have showcased exceptional skills that have earned them significant recognition within the league.
Joining Keeney on the first team is Katelyn Steenhoek, a junior from Colfax-Mingo, who received a second-team selection. Steenhoek was notable for ranking tenth in the conference with 160 assists, second with 27 aces, and first with 210 serves, achieving 190 successful serves. She also added 63 kills, nine blocks, and 115 digs to her impressive season totals.
Honorable Mentions and Coach Recognition
The honorable mention list includes Kate Harthoorn from Lynnville-Sully, alongside Colfax-Mingo’s Grace Hunsberger and Grace Allen. Harthoorn recorded 124 digs, 31 kills, eight aces, and five blocks, finishing seventh in the SICL with 196 assists. Hunsberger posted 52 kills, 44 digs, and 14 aces, while Allen ranked eighth in the league with 177 digs.
Recognizing outstanding coaching, Tim Burgess from Montezuma was named Coach of the Year for leading his team to the conference championship. His leadership has been pivotal in developing players’ skills and strategies throughout the season.
The SICL standings reflect a competitive environment, with Montezuma finishing at the top with a perfect conference record of 10-0 and an overall record of 24-9. Other notable teams included North Mahaska and HLV/TC, both finishing with 8-2 conference records.
The conference achievements highlight the dedication and talent of the players, coaches, and teams involved. As the volleyball season wraps up, the recognition serves as an affirmation of the hard work put in by these athletes throughout the year.
