Remembering Carol A. Stent: A Life of Adventure and Love

Carol A. Stent passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her residence in Overton, Nevada, alongside her beloved husband, David Y. Nakahara. Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to parents John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol’s life was marked by adventure, love, and a deep commitment to family and friends.

Carol graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation. During her time there, she formed lasting friendships with both her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who played a significant role in her education. As the eldest of six siblings, Carol demonstrated leadership and warmth that would characterize her throughout her life.

After high school, Carol, along with four classmates, set out for San Francisco, California, where they pursued careers and found life partners. Her striking beauty and vibrant personality led her to Los Angeles, where she caught the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England. The couple married at the Wayfarers Chapel, a testament to their shared love and commitment.

Following their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found love again with attorney David Y. Nakahara. The couple married on May 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their bond flourished as they shared their lives and their home with 17 beloved pets, all of whom brought joy to their lives.

Carol was not only devoted to her family but also played a vital role in caring for David’s elderly parents during their final years, offering support and compassion. This dedication occurred amidst her own recovery from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. Despite her challenges, Carol’s spirit remained unbroken, characterized by her wit, tenacity, and love for life.

As a person who embraced beauty in all things, Carol was known for her passion for animals, reflected in her affection for her many pets. She left an indelible mark on the lives she touched, illuminating the world around her with her positivity and generosity.

She is survived by her husband, David Y. Nakahara, and her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, MA and Naples, FL, Janet Buchino of Randolph, MA and Naples, FL, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, SC. Carol A. Stent will be remembered for her zest for life and her unwavering love for her family and friends.
