GigaBite Robotics Seeks Donations to Boost STEM in South Lake Tahoe

GigaBite Robotics, a community-based robotics team from South Lake Tahoe, is reaching out for donations to enhance STEM opportunities for local students. The team, consisting of 11 middle and high school students, is actively engaged in mentoring and educational initiatives aimed at fostering an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

This year, GigaBite Robotics has made significant strides in involving local youth in STEM. They mentored a rookie FIRST Lego League (FLL) team that recently received the Rising Stars Award and competed at the Northern Nevada Championship. In addition, GigaBite has organized STEM camps and workshops and has hosted community events that introduce students to robotics, engineering, and coding.

As they enter their fifth year of participation in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), this season’s challenge, titled Decode, has prompted the team to enhance their approach through data-driven design and the integration of custom-built mechanisms. The team emphasizes the importance of real-world engineering principles, teamwork, and problem-solving, all framed within the ethos of Gracious Professionalism.

Community Engagement and Outreach

GigaBite Robotics’ impact extends well beyond competition. The team has taken on various roles, including mentoring younger teams and providing support to other FTC teams throughout Nevada and internationally. They have volunteered at both FTC and FLL competitions and organized a local scrimmage.

Furthermore, GigaBite has partnered with local educational institutions, including Lake Tahoe Community College, to host events like STEM Discovery Night. Over the past three summers, they have reached more than 500 students through hands-on STEM camps and outreach initiatives.

Donations are crucial for sustaining these efforts. Contributions will directly fund essential resources such as robot parts, 3D printing filament, registration fees for competitions, tools, travel expenses, and outreach programs. The team aims to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder students from exploring STEM fields.

Donations for GigaBite Robotics can be made through their official page: https://hcb.hackclub.com/donations/start/gigabite-robotics-team. The team operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Hack Club, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with a registered EIN of 81-2908499.

By investing in GigaBite Robotics, community members can help inspire curiosity, build confidence, and create a brighter STEM future for the youth of South Lake Tahoe. The team appreciates any support that can be offered as they strive to empower local students and foster innovation within their community.
