Almost 300 cyclists participated in the recent Ribble Valley Ride, raising nearly £7,000 for local charities, including the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. This significant contribution was made possible through the efforts of the Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Accrington, who organised the event along with key sponsors. The cheque presentation took place at Ribble Cycle’s flagship showroom in Barrowbrook, near Clitheroe.
The ride, which occurred in 2025, featured three routes: a family-friendly 25-mile option, a more challenging 50-mile route, and a demanding 70-mile course that showcased some of the toughest hill climbs in the Ribble Valley and the Forest of Bowland. Ribble Cycles sponsored the event, contributing a prize fund of £3,000, where participants had the chance to win one of three vouchers for Ribble Cycles.
This year marked the seventh consecutive year that Heidelberg Materials (formerly known as Hanson Cement) hosted the event headquarters. The success of the Ribble Valley Ride is largely attributed to the dedication of volunteers from the Rotary Clubs, who not only organised the event but also prepared food for riders at two feed stations.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Bill Honeywell, a prominent figure in the organisation, stated, “Over the last decade, the Ribble Valley Ride has raised more than £70,000 for local charities, and this recognition should really be shared by the small army of people who have made the event happen over the years.” He extended his gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers who have contributed to the event’s longevity.
The fundraising manager at Rosemere Cancer Foundation, Sue Swire, expressed deep appreciation, stating, “We are so very grateful to the organisers, sponsors, and hundreds of riders who have participated in this wonderful community event over the years.”
Commercial director of Ribble Cycles, David Stacey, also shared his pride in sponsoring the event, noting, “It’s wonderful to be able to make this donation to the amazing team at Rosemere.”
The next Ribble Valley Ride is scheduled for June 7, 2025, promising another opportunity for the community to come together in support of local charities. With its combination of challenging routes and community spirit, the event continues to be a highlight on the local calendar.
