Raymond Arledge McLees, III, an influential member of the Tryon, North Carolina community, passed away on December 15, 2023, at the age of 83. His death occurred at White Oak of Tryon, a local care facility. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Raymond A. McLees, Jr. and Martha Prince McLees.
McLees was a proud alumnus of Wofford College, where he was actively involved in the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. His professional journey took him through various roles in the textile industry across South Carolina, Charlottesville, Virginia, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eventually, he settled in Tryon, where he made a significant impact as an Investment Advisor at the A.G. Edwards Tryon Office.
Throughout his life, McLees was known for his deep passion for the Tryon community. He actively participated in local organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Tryon Concert Association. His commitment to service extended to being a member of the Rotary Club of Tryon and volunteering with the Pacolet Area Conservancy.
A Passion for Music and Community Engagement
McLees was not only dedicated to his professional career but also embraced the cultural aspects of life. He was an enthusiastic member of the choir at Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he shared his love for music. Friends and family remember him as an esteemed storyteller and a well-loved bon vivant, whose zest for life resonated with those around him.
He is survived by his three children: Raymond A. McLees IV and his wife, Jennifer, of Lyons, Colorado; Lander B. McLees of Denver, Colorado; and Dr. Margaret McLees and her husband, Dr. Patrick Bosque, also of Denver. He leaves behind two granddaughters who will cherish his memory.
Funeral Arrangements and Legacy
A funeral service is planned for a later date at Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Additionally, the family will welcome friends in Tryon, North Carolina. McLees will be laid to rest in the Old Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, South Carolina.
