First Step 4 Life is hosting a community open house today from 12:00 to 15:00 at its facility located at 1448 G St., Lewiston. The event, which will include complimentary food, aims to raise awareness about the free resources and services available to the community.
Manager Astahna Adkins expressed her hope for increased community awareness regarding the center’s offerings. Among these resources are support groups designed for various demographics, such as veterans and individuals reintegrating into society after incarceration. The center also provides essential mental health services, parenting classes, and recovery coaching facilitated by individuals who have firsthand experience with recovery.
“We have lived experiences and we’ve made it this far,” Adkins stated. “When you have lived experiences, you can sympathize with them and understand what they’re going through, or how they’re feeling, or what struggles they’re gonna face.” This empathetic approach is central to the center’s philosophy.
In addition to these programs, the recovery center features a clothing closet and a computer lab, along with hosting activities like family game nights. These initiatives are designed to foster a sense of community and support among participants.
The center collaborates with various local organizations, including CHAS Health, Snake River Community Clinic, drug treatment courts, and the Department of Corrections. Adkins emphasized the center’s commitment to assisting anyone seeking help, stating, “We’re not gonna turn away somebody if we can try to help them find recovery.”
The open house serves as an opportunity for community members to learn more about the valuable resources available to them. By encouraging participation, First Step 4 Life aims to enhance accessibility to its services and support the well-being of individuals in the Lewiston area. This initiative highlights the importance of community engagement in the journey towards recovery and personal growth.
