Community Mourns the Loss of Melbra James Leo ‘Mel’ Orr

Melbra James Leo ‘Mel’ Orr, aged 28, passed away on February 12, 2026, at his residence in Great Bend, Kansas. His family and community remember him fondly for his kindness, enthusiasm, and dedication to service.

Born on December 28, 1997, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Melbra was the son of Brian Douglas Orr and Chele Cay Bryant. He spent much of his life in Great Bend, where he became a beloved member of the Rosewood Services family. Mel worked in the recycling center, focusing on disassembling electronics, and formed strong bonds with both his colleagues and friends at the organization.

A Heartfelt Community Member

Mel had a remarkable ability to connect with others. Known for his friendly demeanor, he brought smiles and warmth to everyone he met. His caring nature and big heart made him a treasured presence in the community, where he often went out of his way to help others.

An active participant in the Rosewood Miracle Workers Aktion Club, Mel engaged in numerous community activities and service projects. He found joy in giving back and was always eager to lend a helping hand. His love for music was evident, as he often listened with enthusiasm, allowing it to brighten his days.

Melbra also cherished the outdoors, frequently enjoying fishing and quiet moments at Veterans Memorial Park, where he appreciated the beauty of nature and the tranquility it offered. In recent years, he developed a strong passion for the Kansas City Chiefs, cheering for the team with unwavering energy.

Remembering Melbra Orr

Mel’s passing leaves a profound impact on his friends and the staff at Rosewood Services, who regarded him as family. His joyful spirit will be remembered and carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Survivors include a wide circle of friends and the dedicated staff who embraced him wholeheartedly.

Cremation has been carried out, and a celebration of life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on February 18, 2026, at Rosewood Memorial Garden, located at 384 N. Washington Ave., Great Bend.
