Residents of Putnam County will have the opportunity to connect with over 30 organizations at the second Community Extravaganza, scheduled for March 16, 2024. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, located at 2400 St. Johns Ave. in Palatka. This gathering aims to provide essential resources for families, children, veterans, and the elderly, all in one accessible location.
Father Robert Massey, pastor of St. John the Divine Charismatic Episcopal Church and a key organizer of the event, emphasized its community-driven purpose. “I cannot tell you what the benefits are that people will get, but I know if they come, they’ll get something out of it,” he said. The extravaganza seeks to bridge the gap between residents and vital services, ensuring that everyone knows where to turn for support.
A diverse range of organizations will participate in the event, including the Putnam County School District’s pre-K program coordinator, Feed the Need of Putnam County, and veterans from the American Legion Bert Hodge Post 45 Auxiliary. Massey noted that the collaborative effort is part of a larger mission. “This is God’s mission, that’s important to remember,” he stated, highlighting the spiritual aspect of the gathering.
Fostering Community Connections
Massey articulated a vision for a supportive community where individuals can easily access resources. “Once people have their basic needs of food, water, shelter and clothing, they want to better themselves,” he explained. By facilitating easier access to services, the event aims to empower residents to lead more fulfilling lives. “We want them to have the freedom of mind like, ‘There is someone I can call to help me with this,’” he added.
Debbie Brooks, secretary for Grace Fellowship, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of outreach. “It’s important to reach out to the community and let people know about all the tools available to residents,” she stated. Brooks shared her own experience from last year’s event, revealing that she discovered numerous resources available in Putnam County. “I didn’t realize until I met some of them, and it was an eye-opener for me,” she said.
The Community Extravaganza is designed to be a family-friendly event, featuring activities for children, live entertainment, and food options. Attendees can expect free hot dogs and various food vendors offering snacks and meals. Massey noted that interest in the event is high, with more than 30 organizations already committed to participating. He remains optimistic about the community’s growth.
Building a Brighter Future
Massey believes that Palatka is on the brink of growth and that local residents should prioritize supporting one another. “I’m all about success,” he remarked, recalling his time as a teacher. “The only way to be successful is to know your possibilities and then take advantage of them.”
The upcoming Community Extravaganza not only represents an opportunity for residents to gain access to essential services but also a chance for the community to come together and foster connections that can lead to lasting change. As the event approaches, the anticipation builds for a day that promises to enrich the lives of many in Putnam County.
