Carol K. Lugar, aged 80, of Bluffton, Indiana, passed away on February 2, 2026. Her family shared that she met her Savior face to face, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. Carol was born to Kenneth and Mary Loy (Thomas) Nusbaumer and spent most of her life in Chester Township.
She graduated from Chester Center High School in 1964, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to her community and family. Carol had a deep connection to her early church life, attending Chester Center Church, which played a significant role in her upbringing. Professionally, she worked at the Old First National Bank in Bluffton and later at CTS of Berne, contributing to her local economy.
Throughout her life, Carol was known for her profound love for family and friends. Her daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Lugar, recalls her as an amazing mother who cherished every moment spent with her family. Carol is survived by her daughter and several siblings: Linda (Carl) Marvic of Vista, Texas; Marlene (Jim) Hoag of Craigville; and Darrel (Deborah) Nusbaumer of Bluffton. She took great joy in her nine nephews and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she adored.
Carol’s passing is marked by the absence of her parents, her son, Kenneth Eugene Lugar, and her brother, G. Lamoine Nusbaumer. Her family invites those who knew and loved her to gather in remembrance.
Memorial Services and Tributes
Family and friends can pay their respects from 15:00 to 20:00 on February 5, 2026, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, located at 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier. A service celebrating Carol’s life will take place at 14:00 on February 6, 2026, officiated by Pastor Lyle Breeding. Following the service, interment will be held at Stahl Cemetery in Petroleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Stahl Cemetery Association at 2066 E. State Rd. 218, Bluffton, IN 46714. These gestures will honor Carol’s memory and support the upkeep of the cemetery.
