Beloved Photographer and Philanthropist Lou DiCerbo Passes Away at 95

Louis R. “Lou” DiCerbo, a cherished member of the Schenectady community, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 95 at Ellis Hospital. Known for his warmth, humor, and generosity, Lou leaves behind a legacy of kindness and community service.

Born in Schenectady to Pasquale and Elvira Riccio DiCerbo, Lou dedicated his professional life to photography, primarily working for the General Electric Company. He later retired from the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where he continued to influence those around him with his creative spirit.

Lou’s commitment to his community extended far beyond his professional life. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Schenectady City Mission, where he played a crucial role in supporting those in need. Additionally, Lou took it upon himself to deliver bread from local bakeries, including Perreca’s and Panera Bread, to various organizations such as the former Carmelite Monastery, Ellis Hospital Emergency Room, and shelters for battered women.

Lou is survived by his wife, Rose DiCerbo, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. He is also survived by three children: Louis (Robin Stafford, DMD) DiCerbo of Western Springs, Illinois; Margaret (Patrick) Golden of Niskayuna; and Marina DiCerbo of San Francisco, California. Lou was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Andrew, Olivia, and Dan. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Gray, but is remembered fondly by his surviving sister, Esther Graham.

The DiCerbo family announced that calling hours will be held on January 12, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Gleason Funeral Home in Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on January 13 at 11:00 at St. Anthony’s Church, followed by burial at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville.
