AlignLife of Tryon has launched a community initiative to support the Polk County Toy Run, an annual charity event aimed at providing toys and financial assistance to underprivileged children during the holiday season. The chiropractic practice, led by Dr. Clay Baker, is utilizing a vintage 1967 Volkswagen Van to collect new, unwrapped toy donations from residents.
The “Stuff the VW Bus” event kicked off on Monday and is scheduled for another session on November 26, 2025. Community members are encouraged to drop off their contributions at AlignLife’s location at 1053 S Trade St.. The initiative complements the upcoming Polk County Toy Run, taking place on November 29, which will see motorcyclists from across the Carolinas ride together to raise awareness for local children in need.
Riders will depart from the Tryon Arts and Crafts School and navigate a scenic route through Tryon, Landrum, Green Creek, and Mill Spring, all under the guidance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. “We’re proud to be part of this community and contribute to such a worthy cause,” Dr. Baker remarked. “It’s all about giving back and making a difference during the holidays.”
AlignLife has been a consistent supporter of the Toy Run, not only by providing a donation drop-off point but also by promoting the event through the eye-catching Volkswagen Van, owned by Practice Manager Angela Metcalf and her husband, Michael Metcalf. The vintage vehicle has also made appearances in local parades, symbolizing the spirit of giving during the festive season.
“We wanted to make a big splash for the community with the VW van,” Dr. Baker added. “It not only adds a fun, nostalgic touch to our efforts but also gets people excited about donating. We aim to collect as many toys as possible, and this van is the perfect vehicle to help spread the word and rally support for a great cause.”
The Polk County Toy Run has garnered significant support over the years, benefiting organizations such as the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Steps to Hope, and Polk County DSS. Organiser Barry Gee highlighted the importance of donation boxes and drives, like the one at AlignLife, in facilitating community contributions. “The donation boxes are crucial for making it easy for everyone to contribute,” he said. “Every toy and dollar collected goes directly to the children in need, and we want to ensure that the process is as accessible as possible for the community.”
Motorcycle registration for the Toy Run begins at 10:30 a.m., with the ride typically departing around 1:30 p.m.. Participants are encouraged to contribute either a $10 monetary donation per bike or a new, unwrapped toy. The procession concludes at the Polk County Courthouse, where the community gathers to cheer on the riders and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.
AlignLife’s involvement in the Toy Run underscores its commitment to uplifting those in need within the Polk County community. As the toy collection continues, residents are urged to stop by AlignLife and other local businesses to ensure every child experiences a joyful holiday season.
