A recent trip to Kansas City for a Kansas City Chiefs game provided both excitement and community engagement for several local residents. The weekend was marked by significant events, including vaccinations, voting, and a thrilling football match against the Raiders.
Prior to the journey, Ernest and his partner visited Walgreens to receive their vaccinations. Pharmacy technician Daniella administered their COVID-19 and flu shots, while pharmacist De’Marcus provided the RSV vaccine. After confirming Ernest’s last tetanus shot was in July 2020, he did not require another, but his partner needed a tetanus booster since hers was last administered in 2014. Both were due for pneumonia shots, which are recommended for adults.
On the same day, the couple participated in absentee voting for local amendments, where they encountered fellow community members Charda Bronaugh and Dee Bennett. Voting staff included Richard Martinez, the elections judge, along with Kimberly Thomas, Rhonda Doss, and Betty Dufner. They were numbers 128 and 129 to cast their votes on the second day of voting, demonstrating their commitment to civic participation.
After their voting experience, they visited LabCorp for routine blood tests. There, Cynthia began the blood draw, but Rhonda was called in to help locate a suitable vein. Rhonda celebrated her 15th year with LabCorp during this visit. Later, during a checkup with Dr. Sean Moran, a memory test required spelling “World” backwards, which proved challenging. However, RN Karen Jones assisted in ensuring the correct letters were provided on the second attempt.
The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the Kansas City Chiefs game, where local residents Linda Malnar, Mandy Milam Harris, and her family cheered for their team. Positioned in row 1 of section 118, Mandy and Josiah experienced the action up close, while Linda and Shelby were seated in section 120. The excitement was palpable, with fans standing and chanting throughout the game. Despite their efforts, Travis Kelce did not acknowledge Shelby’s sign from the sidelines.
Coach Andy Reid decided to pull the starters in the fourth quarter, a move that did not dampen the spirits of the dedicated fans. The return journey to Bullard was estimated to conclude around 12:45 a.m., marking another successful outing for the die-hard Chiefs fans.
In addition to their thrilling weekend, the community is invited to contribute to a charitable cause. The East Texas Food Bank is seeking 50 to 75 volunteers for their Holiday Food Box Distribution on December 1, 2023. The event will take place at the Angelina County Expo Center in Lufkin, Texas, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Various shifts are available, including traffic controllers, intake positions, and loading assistance. Interested individuals must call to volunteer, ensuring their names are added to the roster.
The organizers appreciate any time volunteers can contribute, especially given that the event falls on a Monday. For further details, Susie can be reached at (936) 676-6654, while Josh is available at (936) 240-6378. The community’s support is vital as they work together to assist those in need during the holiday season.
